The Gambia's history

The Gambia's history

The Gambia has thousands of years of history – some of the historical testimonies are now listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
Especially the time of the inhuman slave trade is well documented and the preserved sites bear witness to the suffering of the West Africans, who were ruthlessly and brutally sacrificed to the greed of the European colonial powers. Some of these places are easily accessible from the hotels in the coastal region, others are so far inland that they can be visited as part of a tour there.
Centuries-old legends and traditions are kept alive to this day.
